NZ Weather, an application developed by Logistics Oasis Limited ("we", "our", or "us"), is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our mobile application collects, uses, and safeguards your information when you use NZ Weather (the "App").

This policy applies to users worldwide, including users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), and New Zealand. We comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), UK GDPR, and New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

Information We Collect

NZ Weather handles personal and sensitive user data (location) in accordance with the Google Play User Data Policy, GDPR, and UK GDPR.

Location Data

We request access to your device's location to automatically detect your nearest New Zealand city and provide accurate local weather forecasts.

How We Use Location Data:

• Location data we collect through this app is only used to determine your nearest city from our pre-defined list of New Zealand locations.
• The location is processed locally on your device.
• We do not track your location movements or history.
• We do not store your precise location data on our servers.
• Third-party advertising partners (AdMob) may use your IP address to find an approximate location as described in their policies. Precise location information is not provided to advertising partners.

Your Control:

• Granting this app location permission is optional.
• If you deny location permission, the app defaults to showing the weather forecasts for the default New Zealand location of Auckland.
• You can manually select any New Zealand city from the dropdown menu at any time.
• You can revoke location permissions through your device's settings.

Device and Technical Information

The App collects the following technical information:

• Device Identifiers: Device ID and package name for security verification purposes.
• App Usage Data: Launch count (stored locally) to determine when to prompt for in-app reviews.
• Cached Weather Data: Weather information temporarily stored on your device to reduce network usage and improve performance.
• Security Tokens: Google Play Integrity tokens generated when fetching weather data to verify the authenticity of app requests (Android only).

Third-Party Services

The App integrates third-party SDKs and services that may process limited data necessary for functionality, security, analytics, and advertising.

Google AdMob

Our App displays advertisements through Google AdMob. For users in the EEA and UK, we request and display non-personalised ads by default in compliance with GDPR. We implement Google's Consent Management Platform to obtain your consent before serving personalised ads.

For EEA/UK users: When you first launch the app, you will be presented with a consent dialog allowing you to choose whether to consent to personalised advertising. You can change your consent preferences at any time through the "Privacy Settings" option in the app.

Google Play Integrity API

We use Google Play Integrity API to verify that weather data requests are coming from genuine, unmodified versions of our app. This security measure helps protect our backend services from abuse and ensures data integrity.

• Integrity tokens are generated on-demand when fetching weather data.
• Tokens contain information about your device's security status and app authenticity.
• No personal information is included in these tokens.
• Tokens are transmitted to our backend for verification only.

React Native and Associated Libraries

Our App uses these React Native and related libraries for the weather app's functionality:

• expo-location (for location detection)
• react-native-google-mobile-ads (for advertisements and consent management)
• react-native-svg (for weather graphics and charts)
• react-native-mmkv (for fast local data storage)
• @react-native-async-storage/async-storage (fallback storage)
• react-native-google-play-integrity (security verification)
• react-native-in-app-review (optional app review prompts)

These libraries operate locally on your device and do not transmit personal information to external servers beyond what is documented in this privacy policy.

Data Storage and Security

• The Application does not maintain any user accounts or profiles.
• No personal information is transmitted to, or stored on, our servers.
• Weather data is temporarily cached on your device using encrypted local storage for display purposes only.
• Cached weather data is automatically cleaned up after 7 days to minimise storage usage.
• Your selected city preference is stored locally on your device.
• All data processing occurs locally on your device except for generalised weather data requests to our backend service. This service retrieves weather data for the whole of New Zealand and is then processed on device.
• We implement industry-standard security measures including API authentication and integrity verification to protect security.

Data Retention

• Location Data: Not retained. Location is used momentarily to determine your nearest city and is immediately discarded.
• Weather Cache: Stored temporarily on your device for performance optimisation, with automatic cleanup of older weather data.
• City Selection: Stored locally on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app data.
• Launch Count: Stored locally on your device for review prompt timing only.
• No historical data is stored on our servers.

Your Rights and Choices

Rights for All Users

You have the right to:

• Deny location permissions (the Application will still work with manual city selection)
• Revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings
• Uninstall the App to remove all locally cached data
• Contact us with any privacy concerns or questions

Additional Rights for EEA and UK Users (GDPR/UK GDPR).

Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you have some additional rights:

• Right of Access: Request information about what personal data we process.

Managing Advertising Preferences

For EEA/UK Users

You can manage your advertising consent at any time:

• Open the NZ Weather app.
• Scroll to the bottom of the screen.
• Tap "Privacy Settings / Revoke Consent".

Android Device Settings: Go to Settings > Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization.

You can also reset your advertising ID in your device settings to limit ad tracking.

Minors

Our App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). The App is designed for general audiences and does not contain age-restricted content. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under the applicable age, we will take steps to delete that information as quickly as possible.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or other factors. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. International Data Transfers

Weather data requests may be transmitted to our backend services hosted in Australia for processing (Google Cloud Functions). Google AdMob services may involve international data transfers as described in Google's privacy policies.

For EEA/UK users: We rely on Google's compliance mechanisms, including Standard Contractual Clauses and adequacy decisions, for data transfers outside the EEA/UK. Google maintains appropriate safeguards to protect your data during international transfers.
